With the rapid development of science and technology, autonomous driving technology is causing revolutionary changes in the automobile industry.
At present, autonomous driving technology has made remarkable progress. Before understanding the development of autonomous driving technology, it is necessary for us to be familiar with the status quo of autonomous driving.
Three camps of autonomous driving
At present, the entrants in autonomous driving can be divided into automobile manufacturers represented by GM, Volkswagen, PSA, BMW, and Durham; technology companies and travel service companies represented by Google's autonomous driving subsidiaries Waymo and Zoox; and parts companies represented by Bosch and Continental.
Classification of autonomous driving
According to the degree of human intervention, autonomous driving can be divided into L0, L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5 levels, and only L4 and L5 can be called "unmanned driving." As the ultimate goal, the L5 fully automatic driving level can realize all driving operations by vehicles, and human beings do not need to keep their attention. It is suitable for all scenes.
Breakthroughs in autonomous driving technology
At present, major automobile manufacturers have introduced cars equipped with advanced assisted driving systems, which have realized automatic driving in specific scenes. These systems include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking, and lane-keeping assistance, which provide drivers with a more intelligent and convenient driving experience.
For example, Tesla's vision algorithm is a quite mature solution at present. With the cooperation of the camera and millimeter wave/ultrasonic radar, Tesla can realize the L2 ADAS (Advanced Automatic Assisted Driving) function.
Huawei demonstrated a self-developed lidar algorithm to achieve an automatic driving technology close to L4 level at the Shanghai Auto Show. At the same time, Huawei also announced that it would reduce the cost of 96-line lidar to less than 200 dollars.
On the other hand, significant progress has been made in the testing of autonomous driving technology on actual roads. For example, Byd, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Avita, and other car companies have currently obtained L3-level autonomous driving test licenses in China.
